The sun just won’t stop shining on Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. The colorful Savannah murder story has sprouted 2 million copies since its 1994 release, not to mention an offshoot book deal with Pocket for one of its characters, the transvestite Lady Chablis. With such fecund sales figures, don’t expect the Vintage paperback anytime soon. Instead, sister imprint Random House will reap publicity from the upcoming Clint Eastwood-directed movie version by wrapping 400,000 new hardcovers with special golden mini-sleeves. The seeds of profit have been sown.
