'I Know What You Did Last Summer' screenwriter helps clear up this week's burning question

Q Is it us, or are the four kids in I Know What You Did Last Summer stalked by the Gorton’s Fisherman?

A ”We had a joke about that,” says Summer screenwriter Kevin Williamson, who initially had Sarah Michelle Gellar‘s character make a crack about the killer’s eerie but unintentional resemblance to the famous mascot. ”When she’s talking about going to the parade,” says Williamson, ”she said, ‘I’m supposed to look for the fish-stick guy?”’ But director Jim Gillespie cut the line because he thought mocking the killer might decrease the creep-out factor. As far as Gorton’s is concerned, what resemblance? ”The Gorton’s Fisherman is a kind and honorable man. Obviously, there’s no relation,” says senior marketing manager Jodi Nedrow-Counihan. ”Besides, the Gorton’s Fisherman wears a yellow slicker. [Summer‘s villain sports dark green.] Anyone in non-yellow would be a fisherman impostor.”
