On its debut, this New York quartet plays the Oasis game mighty well, employing the requisite crunchy guitar work, melodic power, and psychedelic sprinklings. Vocalist Harley DiNardo even does a passable version of Liam Gallagher’s sneer, but his and guitarist Derrek Hawkins’ lyrics lack Oasis’ sense of drama. Sure, Closer are borrowing, but at least they’re borrowing with pop smarts. C+
