On NYC’s Randall’s Island, a transcendent roster of musicians (including Foo Fighters, Alanis Morissette, and the Beastie Boys, who organized the event) congregated for a June 7-8 concert benefiting the Milarepa Fund, an organization committed to raising awareness of the political situation in Tibet. (1) Colorfully dressed Tibetan monks roamed the grounds; (2) U2 played a set that left the audience enlightened; (3) Iceland’s Bjork got a warm reception on stage and backstage: R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe and Mike Mills delayed a press conference to see her perform. Message of the day: You gotta fight, for your right to…meditate.
