This five-track EP, Shady Lane, includes a pair of alternate cuts from Pavement’s last album, Brighten the Corners: the first, a faster and measurably improved take on ”Type Slowly” and the other, a slight reworking of the wistful title track. But it’s the jokey tension of ”Cherry Area” and the goofily self-conscious ”No Tan Lines” that make this collection a Shady — and irresistible — deal. A-
