Thinner

A plump, unscrupulous lawyer (Robert John Burke) runs over an old Gypsy woman in Thinner — it’s B-movie bad luck — so the Gypsy king touches him, scowls, and wheezes out a curse: ”Thiiinner!” This Stephen King creeper gets more anemic as it goes along, with director Tom Holland (Child’s Play) reduced to slathering on the gore. And up close, Burke’s fat suits and Joe Mantegna’s gangster caricature look even chintzier than they did in theaters. C-
