Toad the Wet Sprocker may be the most nondescript success story in indie rock. Mellow jangling, occasional strings, and nasal mumbling add up to tunes so vague you’re liable to forget them before the CD’s finished. Even Coil‘s strongest tracks (”Desire,” ”Amnesia”) sound like bar-band imitations of the kind of bombast dished out by fellow alt-rockers Live. C-
