Carnival!

Pop mingles with world beat and classical on this benefit album for Sting and wife Trudie Styler’s Rainforest Foundation. In Carnival!, Annie Lennox’s ”Dream Angus” and Bette Midler’s ”Sweet and Low” are delicate beauties, but this is mostly highbrow stuff you admire more than enjoy. Two exceptions: Johnny Clegg’s ”Ufomeni Uyangithanda” overflows with bubbly joy and Madonna’s funky ”Freedom” perks up the somber affair. B
