Rock and Royalty

A celebration of pretension and just plain weirdness is the only explanation for the conceit of this book, which juxtaposes real-life royalty with real-life mannequins in various stages of undress. Is the package attempting to be campy or classy? It’s hard to know by the time you get to ”The Royalty of Sport,” and see the picture of a male model in his underwear, sitting on a soccer ball, and wearing his shorts on his head. Lady Diana, whose mash note about the designer is included in the text, was aghast when she saw the finished book — a reaction that seems less about princessy behavior than about plain common sense.
