Album Review: '12 Picks'

The first half of this solo outing is dynamic but dippy ’80s-style shout metal, peaking with a rap about surviving a car crash (”Rock Soldiers”). The second half consists of overextended in-concert versions of crowd-pleasers from Ace’s more famous enterprise, Kiss. And like Kiss, both sides have a half-witty exuberance that almost wins you over. B
