PC/Console Game Review: 'Independence Day: The Game'
INDEPENDENCE DAY: THE GAME (Fox Interactive, for PC, PlayStation, and Saturn, $54.98) Will Smith’s not around to save the day in this adaptation of last summer’s blockbuster. So it’s up to you to pilot some clunky military aircraft against the dread alien invaders. Though there are 13 mission objectives — protecting defenseless recon planes over New York’s skyscrapers, for example — the true goal is more elementary: Fire at anything that moves, then shoot anything that doesn’t. ID captures the daunting sense of countless alien ships buzzing Earth’s cities with huge mother ships looming above them. Unfortunately, your craft are tough to control and the enemy UFOs are unrelenting, making your mandate to save mankind a lot harder than Will Smith’s. B-
