This inspired pairing of roots-rock oddballs Giant Sand and singer-songwriter-violinist Lisa Germano often brings out the best in both. On songs like ”It’s a Rainbow,” the band’s spare, piano-driven sound supports Germano’s understated voice without trampling its nuances. But Slush suffers from a lack of strong material, relying instead on forgettable originals and a silly cover of the Nancy Sinatra-Lee Hazelwood novelty ”Sand.”
