Roll My Blues Away

Mellow soundscapes from a banjo wizard who’s recently — and effectively — added acoustic slide guitar to his vocabulary. Tony Furtado doesn’t yet have the instinct for the jugular, the dramatic sense of masters like Cooder or Kottke (it’s a taller order for a roots musician in the ’90s than it was in the folk-drenched ’60s). But Roll My Blues Away is perfect movie-soundtrack music, and that’s not meant disparagingly.
