Atticus

The first 40 pages or so of Ron Hansen’s novel, Atticus — which describe Scott Cody’s Christmas visit to his father — are breathtakingly eloquent. The remainder — in which Atticus tries to solve the mystery of his son’s apparent suicide in Mexico a month later — is well handled but cannot equal the emotional power of the beginning.
