Out of the Woodwork

Larry Rice, Tony Rice, Chris Hillman, and Herb Pedersen have serious bluegrass pedigrees, having served with the likes of the Byrds, the Desert Rose Band, and J.D. Crowe & the New South. But instead of showing off their hot licks they opt for tight vocal harmonies and canny song choices like a country waltz version of Aretha’s ”Do Right Woman” and a breathtaking pass at Richard Thompson’s ”Dimming of the Day.” They never cut loose, but on Out of the Woodwork, they prove they have soul to burn.
