ART OF NOISE The Best Of; The Ambient Collection; The Drum and Bass Collection; The FON Mixes (China/ Discovery) In the early ’80s, Art of Noise forged an eclectic mix of club grooves, atmospheric soundscapes, and rock panache that prefigured ’90s techno and ambient. Indeed, their Best Of, while inexplicably excluding seminal hits like ”Moments in Love,” could still pack a dance floor. Even more compelling are three new remix albums, on which contemporary electronic-rhythm innovators like the Prodigy pump up the jams for today’s dance-music tastes. Sometimes these reinterpretations render the original sources unrecognizable, but wasn’t that Art of Noise’s mission in the first place?
