High Octane Cult

The Cult’s entire career seemed like an extended identity crisis, from their early ’80s days as psychedelic Goths to their ’95 flameout as a deeply confused hard rock band. But between the two extremes, these jokers recorded some terrific, lunkheaded heavy metal. Sadly, the retrospective High Octane Cult includes only a sprinkling of songs from the band’s twin peaks, Electric and Sonic Temple, but it’s worth owning if only to have ”Love Removal Machine” and ”Fire Woman” in one place.
