The star-studded Pavarotti & Friends for War Child documents last summer’s benefit concert for the children of Bosnia, which was hosted by Luciano Pavarotti and featured a lineup designed to bridge the classical/pop divide. While performances by the likes of Elton John, Eric Clapton, and Joan Osborne are adequate if slightly overorchestrated, when the tenor duets with Liza Minnelli (”New York, New York”) and Sheryl Crow (a Don Giovanni aria), it’s painfully obvious that Pavarotti has as little talent for pop as Crow has for Mozart. C
