On Honey Dripper, Charles Brown’s rich, molasses-smooth voice has lost none of its beauty or resilience, even though he’s now in his 70s. Whether performing originals (”News All Over Town”) or standards (”There Is No Greater Love”), Brown sounds at peace. He may sing of ”blues all around my bed … blues in my bacon, eggs and bread” in his classic ”I Cried Last Night,” but he’s clearly triumphed in beating them. A-
