The mid-’60s British combo Small Faces, which bifurcated into the hugely successful Faces and Humble Pie, never made much impact Stateside apart from the great ’67 single ”Itchycoo Park” (sadly, not included here). More’s the pity, because the two CDs of Small Faces: The Anthology 1965-1967 offer terrific examples of the sort of soul-infused pop tunes Oasis would kill for. Most revelatory track: ”You Need Loving,” which is nothing less than the de facto prototype for Led Zeppelin’s ”Whole Lotta Love.” B+
