They may be hopelessly retro, but the London quartet should not be lumped in with ’60s-loving Britpoppers like Oasis and Ocean Colour Scene. Kula Shaker don’t merely take you back 20 years on this confident debut, they rejuvenate that period by mixing sitar and Sanskrit chants with wa-wa guitar and Hammond organ. The blissed-out effect of K is somewhere between post-India George Harrison and early Stone Roses. B+
