Singer Lisa B. makes her film debut as a scantily clad demon who keeps seducing married real-estate agent Jeff Fahey (The Lawnmower Man), apparently to lead him into paranoia and madness (and we know he’s going mad when he starts looking like Steve Buscemi). Sprinkled with tame sex scenes, this busy film wanders off in many directions, starting like The Black Cat and ending with a lift from Rosemary’s Baby. Fortunately, Jeffrey Reiner’s ambitious direction has hints of originality, and Serpent’s Lair is well served by the cast, which elevates the film above its direct-to-video trappings. B-
