Chris Isaak started out as a rockabilly revivalist; with Baja Sessions, he’s officially entered the Elvis-soundtrack stage of his career. How else can you explain his straight-faced renditions of hoary chestnuts like ”Yellow Bird” and ”Sweet Leilani”? These gelatinously narcissistic performances (including enervated rehashes of past hits such as ”Two Hearts” and ”Dancin”’) sound like Isaak’s attempt to infiltrate the bar mitzvah circuit. ”Baja Lounge” is more like it.
