Given the inclusion of a wide range of musicians and eras (Replacements, Nancy Sinatra, Helmet, the Temptations), it’s impressive how comfortably this hangs together. Dylan’s gospel-tinged ”Ring of Fire,” Joe Henry’s gentle ”Safe With Me,” and Son Volt’s resigned ”Looking at the World Through a Windshield” lend the album a certain rusticity. The only disappointments on Feeling Minnesota are Wilco’s pallid ”Blasting Fonda” and Spearhead’s surprisingly stiff cover of Sly and the Family Stone’s ”Family Affair.” B+
