Based on H.G. Wells’ story and directed by acclaimed production designer William Cameron Menzies (Gone With the Wind), Things to Come deserves credit for placing the bombing of Britain in 1939; being off by only one year is pretty impressive as these things go. But the war in Things to Come continues for 30 years, and by 1970 civilization is reduced to medieval squalor. Of course, parents probably saw Woodstock as a new Dark Ages, but the rock festival didn’t feature a plaguelike ”wandering sickness” or feral warlords bludgeoning the numb populace into submission. Unless you count Hendrix. Things to Come: B
