If awards were given for being almost funny, this offering (which, believe it or not, played theaters) would rake in the statuettes. As it is, however, the flick never graduates beyond simple dreck: Its simulation of a rebel-on-the-run picture — with Scott Caan (whose real father, Eraser‘s James, appears as his fictional pere) saving Missy Crider from a would-be rapist and fleeing with her from cops — borrows every teen-angst, frat-bonding, truant-father, and road-love cliche, while its leads mumble and cuss their way to pretentiousness. Few characters would ever say, ” That’s deep, man. That’s really deep,” without a shred of irony or self-awareness. None should. D
