What’s a summer blockbuster without an album aimed at the musical taste of every person in the theater? Like the force of nature it’s named after, the soundtrack for Twister careers across the land, never settling anywhere. Ballads from k.d. lang and Lisa Loeb bump into a boisterous Van Halen chant and a perky cut from Shania Twain. The mix makes for a herky-jerky set, albeit it’s not without highlights. The Red Hot Chili Peppers turn into speed-jive beatniks on the charming ”Melancholy Mechanics,” and Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham reunite for ”Twisted,” a song with harmonies that gracefully intertwine with the ease of two weathered but comfortable ex-lovers.
