Just what the new-release shelf needed this spring: a fruit-cakey Yuletide fable. Mia Farrow is instantly annoying as a spacey housewife whose husband has hired a hit-man to kill her on Christmas Eve. More maddening is her journey of self-discovery, full of quirky characters who seem to have escaped from TV’s Picket Fences. This mistake by playwright Craig Lucas and director Norman Rene (who collaborated on Longtime Companion and Prelude to a Kiss) played in theaters, but it belongs on TV. All 10-ton whimsy and lushly fake snow, Reckless is a Hallmark holiday special from hell. D
