Quick, get the bug repellent, it’s another infestation of clueless, chatty, goofily dressed Gen Xers flitting around the scary idea of love! Eric Schaeffer, who made a small splash with his 1994 self-referential debut feature My Life’s in Turnaround, wrote, directed, and stars in the contrived, determinedly cutesy romantic comedy If Lucy Fell — the bastard spawn of Reality Bites and When Harry Met Sally. Princess of sparkle Sarah Jessica Parker costars as Lucy, a neurotic yet fetching Manhattan psychotherapist (oy!) who makes a pact with her wacky best friend/roommate, Joe (Schaeffer), that if the two of them don’t find potential mates before her imminent 30th birthday, they’ll jump off the Brooklyn Bridge together. So jump already, and free up a really good Upper West Side apartment. With Ben Stiller doing a broad send-up of an artiste, model Elle MacPherson as a barely animated object of desire, and, for cheap laffs, Dave Letterman’s Bangladeshi neighbors Mujibur and Sirajul as convenience store clerks.
