In Bad Love, a shiftless, obsessive nobody (Sizemore) hooks up with a beautiful, self-hating, soon-to-be nobody (Gidley) in L.A. Unflinching to the point of being grueling, this lowlife romance convincingly portrays lovers whose individual pathologies make for a sexually potent but emotionally devastating mix. Director Jill Goldman lays out the ugliness with a welcome spareness, yet for all that, this direct-to-video drama isn’t compelling enough to be of interest to anyone who isn’t going for a doctorate in failed relationships. Which, come to think of it, could mean that its target audience is wide indeed. B-
