Recollection: The Best of Concrete Blonde

With gothic tales about vampires, gunplay, and AIDS, L.A.’s Concrete Blonde, which broke up in ’93, were nobody’s idea of a feel-good band. However, the 18-track postscript Recollection: The Best of Concrete Blonde balances their doom and gloom with some relatively sunny pop tunes. Johnette Napolitano’s robust vocal delivery (a slightly bronchial Chrissie Hynde) makes everything here sound like party music for pale people who own a lot of black clothes.
