On this English-language debut, Italy’s biggest rock star seems more comfortable crooning glossy Jon Secada-style romance ballads than Joe Cocker-style blues. Zucchero’s manly bellow surrounds itself with industrial clanks and shortwave interceptions, yet his only truly rocking moment on SpiritoDiVino is on the one track in which he sings in his native tongue: ”O.L.S.M.M.,” which suggests the Gipsy Kings doing loud rap-metal.
