In The Rainmaker, John Grisham returns to courtroom melodrama for the first time since A Time to Kill. The novel, which pits an impoverished Memphis State law student against a greedy insurance company, is a tad predictable, but Grisham’s minor characters and near-Dickensian zeal for mocking pomposity will endear him to his many readers all over again.
