It would have been pig heaven for Babe, but heavy rain turned the entryway to the 53rd Annual Golden Globe Awards into a muddy hell for actresses. ”This is a nightmare,” said presenter Jodie Foster, arriving in a floor-grazing Donna Karan gown. Once inside, though, winners went hog-wild. 1. ”It’s exciting to see all the Australians win,” To Die For‘s Nicole Kidman said between kisses. She cheered on fellow down under winner Babe (Best Musical or Comedy) and Aussie-accented Mel Gibson (Best Director). 2. Accepting his award for Best Actor in a Comedy, Get Shorty‘s John Travolta forgot to thank wife Kelly Preston, but the tension may come in handy. ”We want to do a film together,” said Travolta. ”Maybe as adversaries.” 3 & 4. Gwyneth Paltrow, in Calvin Klein, and Sharon Stone, in Vera Wang, mirrored each other’s images. 5. The three faces of Cybill insisted they’d done no color scheming. ”[Red] is the power color,” said Cybill Shepherd, who scored two statuettes (Best Series and Best Actress) and announced a new fiance (Robert Martin). Nothing could rain on her parade.
