Like many former jingle singers, Stephanie Bentley lacks a distinctive voice. But she makes up for it on this impressive debut in Hopechest with a nearly faultless song selection, ranging from wistful Nanci Griffith-like ballads (”Once I Was the Light of Your Life”) to a Bonnie Raittish invitation to backdoor love (”Think of Me”) — all delivered with smarts and sass.
