PRIEST Linus Roache, Tom Wilkinson (1994, Miramax, R, priced for rental) Oliver Stone thinks he has enemies? Director Antonia Bird had scores of Catholic church elders denouncing her movie, which follows the struggles of a gay clergyman to reconcile his active sexuality with the faith he feels compelled to profess. But the truly shameful conduct here is that Miramax hasn’t released the full 108-minute European cut on video along with this 98-minute version that played in U.S. theaters; most of the trims are from scenes showing Roache’s character in the arms of another man. A drama this well-acted and humane deserves to have its blunt, morally conscientious arguments disseminated in full. A-
