BEASTMASTER III: THE EYE OF BRAXUS Marc Singer, David Warner (1995, MCA/Universal, PG-13, priced for rental) The third installment in this dungeons-and-ferrets series aims for the quasi-mystical solemnity of the 1982 original (which remains good hokey fun). In the title role, Singer looks weathered but still in shape, and Warner, while no Rip Torn, makes a suitably depraved evil warlord. Unfortunately, someone had the bright idea that Singer’s Dar needed an African-American sidekick — for that buddy-movie feel — and should spout the contemporary wisecracks heard on TV’s Hercules. And while low-rent special effects are the norm for this series, demons from the depths of Hades should not resemble renegade Ninja Turtles. D
