Jules Dassin’s B&W police procedural was shot almost entirely on location in New York City (a first for the genre). Nearly 50 years later, The Naked City‘s Oscar-winning cinematography and editing still have resonance. The laserdisc transfer comes from a nearly pristine print, so you can almost feel the summer heat during the climactic chase across the Williamsburg Bridge. Neat bonus: running commentaries by costar Don Taylor and cowriter Melvin Wald.
