Barely moving a facial muscle, Dolph Lundgren is all too convincing in Men of War as a burned-out soldier of fortune out to conquer the natives of a South Seas paradise. He gets attached to the place (especially comely island girl Charlotte Lewis) and decides to protect it from the other, less romantic mercenaries. Unfortunately, the fighting takes forever to start and is so slapdash you can’t always tell who’s where or why. Some playful dialogue by coscripter John Sayles provides the only real pleasure in this straight-to-video clunker. C-
