Dogz (PF. Magic, CD-ROM for PC, $19.95) Letting a virtual dog run amok on your desktop is nothing new — the same concept appears in Microsoft Bob — but Dogz’ verisimilitude (when you ”punish” your mutt by squirting it with a virtual water bottle its yelps provoke instant remorse) and personality (as it grows from puppy to adult, your furry friend can be unpredictably playful, morose, or lazy) make this disc the pick of the litter. Aside from a neat ”guard dog” feature — you can program Fido to bark when someone else tries to log on to your computer — Dogz is more show model than working breed. B+
