First these four characters had their own cartoon show. Then they were best-selling toys. Now the Power Rangers are a live-action movie — but nothing has really changed. Coming on like hyperactive cheerleaders, these teenage superheroes battle ectomorphic demons and shiny metal monsters, all the while somersaulting through the air and spouting their trademark asinine wisecracks. ”Have a nice trip. See you next fall!” quips the pink-suited Ranger Kimberly (Johnson) to a sprawling opponent. Is it any wonder that the Rangers’ fans tend to be preadolescent? Pop Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie into the VCR, then hotfoot it out of the room. The kids’ll love you for it. C
