Low budget, influential, and unforgettable, Phantasm and Re-Animator are two horror yarns that richly deserve their deluxe treatment on these laserdiscs. Both sets offer letterboxed transfers and running audio commentary; as bonuses, Phantasm (in an autographed edition that includes a music CD) sports a first-time stereo soundtrack, and Re-Animator has 20-plus minutes of unused footage. But be warned about the astounding ’70s clothes worn by Phantasm‘s writer-director Don Coscarelli in a supplemental TV interview; they’re even scarier than his film’s infamous silver sphere.
