While the movies haven’t had too much luck cashing in on cybermania, that hasn’t stopped a slew of TV shows from jacking in. Even Corey Feldman is heading up a posse of techno-twerps every week in CBS’ Dweebs. Consider these other shows that recently featured subplots about Net surfing in an effort to ward off channel surfing.

Brotherly Love (NBC) Cyberplot: Anonymous online courtship destructs when the couple meets face-to-face at a comic-book convention. Lesson: A guest spot by Star Trek‘s George Takei may be the one thing to get geeky Netheads away from their PCs and in front of the TV.

The Home Court (NBC) Cyberplot: Sydney (Pamela Reed) is humiliated when her geeky pre-teen son uploads video on the Net of her giving birth. Lesson: Kids hack the darnedest things.

Hope & Gloria (NBC) Cyberplot: Hope (Cynthia Stevenson) accidentally sends a steamy E-mail to everyone in her office. Lesson: Maybe next time she ought to order flowers online through FTD. instead.

Law & Order (NBC) Cyberplot: Hipster detective (Benjamin Bratt) goes online to track down a murder witness. Lesson: If you just saw someone killed, the first thing you’d do, of course, is chat about it is online.

Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman (ABC) Cyberplot: A sinister computer genius threatens to destroy the world’s software market. Lesson: New Adventures indeed. Let’s see the doofus ’50s Jimmy Olsen try to work a modem to save truth, justice, and the American way.

New York Undercover (Fox) Cyberplot: An online pedophile kidnaps a 13-year-old girl. Lesson: Sure, computer-illiterate child molesters are bad, but digitally savvy child molesters are really bad.

Nowhere Man (UPN) Cyberplot: Veil (Bruce Greenwood) enlists the help of a computer expert to find his deleted personal government files. Lesson: Make up for second-hand storyline (see Sandra Bullock’s The Net) with clever episode title (”A Rough Whimper of Insanity” — an anagram of Information Superhighway).
