Though they’re more adventurous than most of Nashville’s cliché-mongers, the Cactus Brothers still opt for a few too many predictable touches to redeem the promise of their freewheeling 1993 debut. Frontman Paul Kirby’s undeniable songwriting gift, moreover, is offset by his vocal similarity to the lead singer of the late, unlamented Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show. B-
