Some of our favorite soaps are cleaning house

Firings are becoming epidemic on daytime — some are budgetary; others are harder to figure. In late July, NBC’s Days of Our Lives canned the popular Thaao Penghlis (Tony) for ”story-line reasons.” And Greg Watkins, underhanded businessman Evan Walsh on As the World Turns, received a particularly unkind cut: After a nasty boating accident in June, in which he suffered multiple lacerations, Watkins returned from a medical absence only to find that his role was being written out. (A spokesperson for Procter & Gamble claims the decision was made prior to his accident.) But it’s ABC’s One Life to Live where job security is most fleeting: Since last fall, Life has dismissed no fewer than three Kevins! (Ken Kenitzer played the role for what seemed like two minutes). If the fickle producers of OLTL want to fire someone else, may we suggest themselves?
