Though humor may be scarce in the Chevy Chase comedy MAN OF THE HOUSE (1995, Walt Disney, PG), there’s no shortage of inside jokes. When Ben Archer (Jonathan Taylor Thomas) looks through a list of serial killers in a book, he passes the name Starling, Robin Anne Clarice. The name of Jodie Foster’s character in The Silence of the Lambs is Clarice Starling.

The teenage Thomas has had two high-profile gigs be fore this: as one of Tim Allen’s sons on the Disney-produced sitcom Home Improvement, and as the voice of young Simba in Disney’s The Lion King. So when Thomas picks up a Life magazine with a cover story about dream houses, his choice of reading material doesn’t seem random. It seems even less so when he reads a comic book in the park: On the back cover is an ad for The Lion King.
