The nicest thing you can say about Human Highway, the little-seen feature codirected by grunge-progenitor and Living Saint of Rock &amp Roll Neil Young, is that as a filmmaker, he’s a great guitarist. An ugly, plotless, anti-nuke screed set at a redneck diner and gas station, Human Highway is basically an excuse for arch musical performances by guest stars DEVO and unusually restrained character turns by Dean Stockwell and Dennis Hopper. The pleasant surprise here is Young himself; his convincing portrayal of a comic nerd (sort of a grunge Urkel) suggests a possible career in sitcoms. C-
