Betwixt Boombastic’s horn samples and clanky production touches in tracks like ”Island Lover” and his cover of Mungo Jerry’s ’70s skiffle oldie ”In the Summertime,” Brooklyn’s reggae rapper Shaggy occasionally hints at the lusty humor of his joyous 1993 hit ”Oh Carolina.” More often, his croaked patois simply succumbs to singsong monotony.
