How did Lawrence Kasdan’s romantic comedy, French Kiss, starring Meg Ryan, get its name? Ask Billy Crystal. The film was titled Paris Match until Crystal got miffed that his romantic comedy, Forget Paris, would do battle with Kasdan’s. ”Billy had registered Forget Paris with the MPAA,” says Kasdan. ”When we went to register Paris Match, he challenged us. It seemed odd. He can use the word Paris and we can’t?” Rather than call in the lawyers, ”we changed the title,” he says, ”and we got lucky. French Kiss is better.” Crystal has no comment, in English or en français.
