Like the late Roy Orbison, neo-rockabilly-romantic Chris Isaak sings achingly sad songs that stop just short of maudlin excess. While nothing on Forever Blue here matches the haunting beauty of 1991’s masterful ”Wicked Game,” songs like the mournful ”Graduation Day” and the title track capture the feeling of perennial loneliness with a pristine and heady purity.
